VISION

Our ethos is based on strong Christian and family values, placing the St George's Church of England School in Kent at the heart of our community.

All members of the St George's School learning community, together with our stakeholders, work collaboratively to deliver success for all our students.

At St George's Secondary School, you will find an internal learning community committed to excellence – where nothing but our best will do.

VALUES

Every child and every member of staff at St George's Church of England Secondary School matters.

We continually strive to promote and nurture the well-being of our students, teachers and members of the wider teaching community.

St George's School believe in ever evolving, continuous professional development in order to create a paramount learning community.

The team at St George's School work to promote a sharing culture, where students are exposed to the maximum benefits of our educational community.

We believe in the voice of every student and member of faculty, which is why ours is a listening culture that acts on the experiences and needs of our community.

CHRISTIAN ETHOS AT ST. GEORGE’S
Christian worship is at the heart of all we stand for.
‘Collective worship in foundation schools with a religious character and voluntary schools will be in accordance with the school's trust deed. Where provision is not made by a trust deed, the worship should be in accordance with the beliefs of the religion or denomination specified for the school.’
From Department for Education – A guide to the law for school governors: Religious Foundation and voluntary schools.

ASSEMBLIES
In the main Assemblies are taken by members of the Senior Leadership Team, Progress Directors, House Managers and members of the Clergy.
Through our ‘Clergy Adoption Scheme’ students are able to get to know their link member of the Clergy.

Canterbury/Winchester Father David
Exeter/Gloucester Stephen Skinner
Norwich/Salisbury Stephen Cave
York/Rochester Rhodri Walters

COMMUNION
We now hold a Communion Service for students who wish to and for staff who are available to attend once a month, starting at 9am (previously once a term). This is usually led by a minister from the Church of England, but sometimes by a member of the clergy from a different denomination.

CHAPLAINCY SCHEME
Every Friday lunchtime a member of the clergy is available in The Heart.

REFLECTION ROOM
We have a quiet space available for students and staff. It is furnished with a settee and easy chair and has a prayer tree and some Bibles. Mrs Billings, Christian Ethos Coordinator, is available at advertised times.

‘EXPLORE GROUP’ for students.
This was originally planned to run for 10 weeks, but is now part of our regular extra curricula programme, from 3.15pm – 4.15pm on Mondays.
Samuel Hearle and Gill Corker kindly plan fun activities and we study passages from the Bible. We finish with prayers in the Reflection Room.

‘EXPLORING FAITH’ for Staff.
Stephen Cave comes in periodically to lead informal sessions for staff after school.

STAFF PRAYER GROUP.
We meet every Wednesday morning at 8.15 am for a short time of prayer for the school.

CHRISTIAN ETHOS GROUP
This group, led by the Christian Ethos Coordinator, is comprised of The Principal, a senior colleague, some teacher colleagues, local members of the clergy, local church members and some governors.
We meet each term and strive to find ways to develop the Christian Ethos within the School.
