Introduction:

The Business and Enterprise Faculty was created in January 2005 to support St. George’s specialist status. The Faculty comprises of the following subject areas:

  • Business Related Studies
  • Health and Social Care
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Leisure/Travel and Tourism

The Faculty’s leads the way in offering a range of Vocational programmes both at level two and three (e.g. Award in Digital Applications and Financial Services). It is a very successful Faculty which makes a considerable contribution to the school’s overall success both at key stage four and five.

A dedicated Business team strive to ensure that all vocational assignments are based upon ‘real life’ business scenarios. Students get ‘first hand’ experience in dealing with a number of local/national businesses from McDonald’s to Cummins Power.

Health and Social Care includes a number of subject specialists who strive continuously to provide the highest standard of teaching and learning. Their results are second to none both at level two and three. The department attracts large numbers of students looking to pursue careers in the social and caring sectors of the UK economy.

A young and enthusiastic team who works very hard to keep up-to-date with new developments in technology (e.g. Virtual Learning Environments). Through offering lunchtime and after-school sessions the ICT team make certain that many students maximise their full potential and achieve their very best. In addition, the team do their utmost to keep abreast of new qualifications such as the Diploma in Digital Applications.

The Leisure/Travel and Tourism department draws upon the knowledge and skills of two experienced geography teachers. Both pull out all the stops to create vocational assignments which meet the needs of individual learners.

Since September 2005 various members of the Faculty have been lucky enough to teach in a new purpose built block – The Centre of Excellence. The block houses ‘state of the art’ ICT equipment, which is employed to its full potential by subject teachers and used by students to produce ‘top quality’ portfolios evidence for their vocational programmes.

Many members of the Faculty contribute to the school’s success through a range of extra/additional activities. Mr Waters as well as being ICT Co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that students in key stage three to five are provided with a variety of business related enrichment activities (e.g. Mobile Mania and X Factor the Business). Mr Hornus is the school’s ICT Enrichment Co-ordinator and provides lunchtime opportunities for students to develop their interest in ICT related programs (e.g. Schools Fantasy League). In addition, Mrs Ball is responsible for liaising with external agencies to ensure the school’s ‘aim higher’ initiatives are successful.
