Faculty: Business & EnterpriseSubject: Travel & Tourism Travel and Tourism is a topical course that covers a range of issues in and around the tourist industry. Topics include the UK tourist industry, customer service, European holiday destinations, marketing, employability, business skills, tourist development, holiday types and visit planning. In years 10 and 11 the BTEC course is studied. This course in entirely coursework base, with no external exams completed. Three portfolios are completed in year 10 and a further three in year 11, all of which have strict deadlines. In the sixth form there is an applied GCE course that has replaced the AVCE course and can be studied at AS level for one year and then as an A2 course if the second year is completed.
On all courses students will benefit from observing and engaging in real life situations in the industry. This can take the form of trips organised at school or as independent visits arranged by the students in their own time. Throughout the year there will also guest speakers talking about specific aspects of the course to enhance student learning.
