At GCSE we follow the SEG GCSE Course which has a mixture of coursework and examination as follows.
Coursework: 4 essays – 20%
Speaking & Listening – 20%
Examination - 60%
Some students may follow a literature course, in addition to the language course. For this, the coursework is 40% and the examination 60%.
Reading
Try to read as much as you can – books, magazines, newspapers – anything. The more you read, the more you will improve your reading. Join a Library and get reading.
Writing
Work hard on your written work on how to improve. You need to be able to write stories, poems, articles, arguments, letters, speeches and many other styles and genres of writing.
Grammar and Punctuation
Work hard on your basic punctuation, especially full-stops, speech marks and apostrophes.
You will be shown how to write good, complex sentences, using conjunctions, relative pronouns and participles so that your sentences are fluent and mature.
Spelling
Work hard on your spelling. Check your mistakes in your work and try to learn any words that you find difficult.
Use the techniques that you are taught including:
Look, say, cover, write, breaking down and using minemonics.

How clear and neat is your handwriting? Work on our handwriting programme to help you develop beautiful, cursive (joined-up) handwriting. Practise for a few minutes every day ad you will soon show real improvement.
