Subject: Geography

geographyGeography is an exciting, dynamic subject that encompasses a wide variety of skills from a number of subject areas. In year 7 students follow a programme of Project-Based Learning. This is a combination of Geography, History, RE, ICT and Citizenship and requires students to do work in small groups to solve problems and complete activities based on these subjects..

Year eight begins with a look at population and the reasons why people live in some places and not in others. Then we look at Brazil and its people. The unit that most students look forward to is the coastal fieldwork trip, which sees us visiting the Thanet coastline and studying its features.

These basic skills are built on over the rest of the year and into year nine when the options are taken. Geography always has a lot of interest at this time of year and our GCSE results reflect the interest shown by the students.

ReculverThe GCSE course consists of a number of units covering both physical and human geography and includes a coursework element that constitutes 25% of the overall mark. At the end of year eleven two exam papers are sat which make up the remaining marks.

The coursework is based around the coast of Reculver.
