Introduction to the Humanities Faculty:The dictionary defines humanities as “polite scholarship especially of Latin and Greek classics”. In St. George’s “Humanities” means History, Geography and Religious Education. We have 9 subject rooms, with those allocated to History already being equipped with interactive whiteboards, an innovation which is proving immensely popular with the students. All members of staff are enthusiastic about their subjects and this is reflected in the wide range of artefacts in use in each subject area. Some of those used are the personal property of the teacher concerned and can be seen in use in and out of school activities too, such as the shields and spears favoured by the re-enactment supporters. Year 7 are taught History, Geography, Citizenship, RE and ICT all together in the form of Project Based Learning (PBL). This is an exciting new venture that personalises learning and allows students time to self evaluate, reflect and set their own targets. Projects include "Me", "The Olympics, "Invasion", "The Sikh Experience", "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Expeditions". (More details of each project will be available on the school website soon).
