As would be expected in a Church School, the main events and activities run by RE involve the Church. Years 7 and 8 Option group are required to visit a Church for various homework tasks, Holy Communion is celebrated by local priests twice termly in school, and St. Peter’s Church plays host to the school for the Christmas Carol Service and the St. George’s Day celebration.
All students are required by Law to study RE. In St. George’s we follow the Kent Agreed Syllabus which covers the major world religion found in Britain today, namely Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism and Buddhism.
All students in years 7 to 11 have 1 lesson of RE each week, with one homework per fortnight. In years 10 and 11 students follow a CGSE short course called "Religion and Life" which covers many issues of real life such as abortion, divorce, marriage, believing in God and other issues.
All Learning Styles are catered for in classroom activities and lessons involve making and doing as well as listening and writing. Lessons are designed to encourage students to think about the issues we cover, the main aim being to enable them to leave school with open and enquiring minds, asking searching questions about the ultimate issues of life and able to appreciate, if not agree with, the viewpoint of others.
