Faculty: Science

Key Stage 3

There are nine Science groups in each year and students at St George’s follow three pathways in Key Stage 3 in Science depending on their ability:

Two groups of higher ability students follow an accelerated curriculum which allows them to complete Key Stage 3 in two years. These students sit their KS3 SATs examinations at the end of Year 8 and go on to study GCSE in Year 9.

Five groups follow the ‘Framework’ Science Scheme of work which splits the KS3 curriculum into short modules, these modules are assessed through structured homework tasks and through ‘Badger’ self assessment exercises. These students complete KS3 in three years sitting their SATs examinations at the end of Year 9.

Two groups follow a differentiated curriculum following the ‘Hodder Gold’ course which allows for challenging activities for those students who have lower literacy and numeracy levels.
