Faculty: TechnologySubject: Food Technology Welcome to the St George’s Food Technology website page. We have a recently refurbished room that is light, airy and spacious. Each pupil is allocated a unit that is fully equipped with basic kitchen equipment. Two pupils share one cooker. Pupils must take responsibility for their units. All pupils are expected to bring ingredients, containers and aprons for practical assignments. At Key Stage 3 pupils follow eight week courses. Each course has been specially designed to allow pupils to reach their full potential and achieve good National Curriculum levels. Pupils will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of food, use a variety of food materials, learn new technical skills and develop decision making skills. At Key Stage 4 pupils will study GCSE Home Economics: Food and Nutrition (AQA board). This is a two year course with a final examination worth 50% and coursework worth 50%. Coursework will last 30 hours. Only students who enjoy learning about food and nutrition, who enjoy cooking and are prepared to be committed to academic study should choose this subject at GCSE.
