Exeter House Charity

Our current House Charity is “Children With Leukaemia”, a charity that we have supported for a number of years.

www.leukaemia.org

"CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA" is the national charity dedicated to conquering childhood leukaemia through research into the causes of the disease, improving treatments for sufferers and the welfare of leukaemic children and their families.

Leukaemia is a cancer of the blood. It's not hereditary. You can't catch it. Yet it kills more of our children than any other disease. And incidence is increasing.

In Exeter we have raised money through regular non-uniform days, as well as other fundraising events such as cake sales and sponsored skipping.  Through our House Council, students can choose how they would like to raise funds. Our most recent fund-raising event has been to raffle a giant Winnie the Pooh bear given to us by Asda.

Exeter House Trips

Over the last 12 months, children in Exeter House have had the opportunity to go Christmas Shopping at Bluewater, and to visit the 'Adventure Island' Theme Park in Southend.

These trips are largely offered as an incentive for good behaviour and effort throughout the academic year and with sponsorship from the school's PTFA on occasions, we aim to keep the cost of the trips to a minimum where we can.

This year we are going on a house trip to see the musical "Wicked". We are also going on a Christmas shopping trip to Bluewater in early December. We hope to take students on a House trip to Thorpe Park around Easter 2008.

Achievements

We are very keen on rewarding all achievements, in order to encourage students to enjoy school and to fulfil their potential.  Students receive certificates for House Points or Merits and these are all accumulated and form one aspect of the INTER HOUSE CHALLENGE at the end of the Christmas, Easter and Summer terms where all Houses compete to win the Challenge Cup.

We were very pleased this year when Exeter won the Inter House Championship, the second time we have been champions in 3 years!  We have won the title 3 times since the turn of the Millennium.  Additionally, we are the current House Point Champions, and have won that title more than any other House.  In 2007 we also had success in many House events, including activities as diverse as football, cookery, chess and hockey.
