Student Voice

House representatives are elected by secret ballot every year. Every student has the opportunity to vote or become a candidate. Brief manifestos have to be presented in an annual house assembly and voting occurs after they have finished. House officials organise meetings and bring to attention matters of concern or interest by attending house staff meetings.

Each form has two form seniors that attend student meetings so their form views are forwarded.

House charity: Woodland Trust

Woodland TrustWe have supported many charities including RSPCA Manston, sponsoring an Indian boy’s education and other environmental organisations. We own acres of Belize Rainforest and trees have been planted in UK Woodlands on our behalf. The school grounds have had over 2000 saplings planted by Salisbury students during House Charity activity weeks and many have now established themselves as mature trees. Unfortunately only 1 in 15 saplings survive drought, trampling, lawn mowers, vandalism etc. so we need to look after and care for our school grounds.

We also helped raise funds to buy a kidney dialysis machine for one of our Salisbury students. Fortunately he was given a kidney transplant and the machine was later donated to QEQM to help others so that they do not have to make the journey to London.

Macmillan Cancer Relief

Salisbury house had to decide which charity they would like to put their money towards this year; when any money was raised or any events were taking place. By a vote Macmillan cancer relief came out on top and so is now our charity.

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the UK’s biggest cancer charities. It focuses on helping people with cancer and their friends and families – because cancer is an illness that affects a lot of people in a variety of ways – physically, emotionally and even financially. We are a source of support, helping with all the things people affected by cancer want and need, and a force for change, pushing for better cancer care.

Kent Bat Group

Salisbury House also support the Kent Bat Group whom work to protect and conserve bats in Kent. There are 17 species of bat in the UK, all of which are protected by law because their numbers have decreased so dramatically. The bat conservation trust is working towards a world where bats and people live in harmony. Their aim is to secure and enhance bat populations for the future generations to enjoy.

House Visits

We have been to many different places on house visits. We have been to Alton Towers, Chessington, BlueWater Christmas shopping, EuroDisney, Pava Asterix, Roller Skating and Ice Skating. Many Salisbury students also take part in the reward visits to McDonalds (9S Business Winners 2005), Pizza Hut and other places. Only students with good Academic Overviews are allowed to take part.
