School Uniform and Equipment

The high reputation enjoyed by this old-established school has been very largely built upon the great measure of co-operation we have received from the parents/carers. We are sure we can rely upon you to co-operate with us in maintaining these high standards in the matter of School Uniform. IF IN DOUBT, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL BEFORE YOU PURCHASE AN ITEM OF SCHOOL CLOTHING.

Blazers and school winter jackets can now be purchased through the school shop at a lower price than can be offered at local shops. Should you wish to purchase a blazer or winter jacket please contact the Finance Office for an order form.

ALL GARMENTS AND POSSESSIONS BROUGHT TO SCHOOL MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH THE OWNER'S INITIAL AND FULL SURNAME.

Parents/carers may buy school uniform from other shops but they must be the school colour and style.

PLEASE NOTE: The navy blue should be DARK navy throughout. It is important to buy the correct shades of navy. Uniform bought from the Accredited Suppliers ensures these colours will be maintained. Black is not an acceptable alternative. Correct wool shades for hand-knitting are available from Julies, St. Peters. Other uniform items are as follows:

BLAZER Navy blue with badge. This garment should normally be worn at all times by both boys and girls.

TIES Navy blue ties with double stripes in House Colours are worn. These are available in School.

COAT There is no specific uniform for outdoor wear and any sensible coat would be acceptable, excluding leather, leather look-alike, suede, denim or fur/fur fabric.

FOOTWEAR Plain BLACK leather shoes, (NO OTHER COLOUR) appropriate for school use. Black trainers are not an acceptable alternative.
FASHION CLOTHES/SHOES TRAINERS AND BOOTS ARE NOT ALLOWED AND STUDENTS WILL BE SENT HOME IF THEY WEAR THESE ITEMS

BOYS:

TROUSERS Dark grey polyester school type trousers. NOT cotton casual jeans type.

SHIRT Plain WHITE only.

PULLOVER (Optional) Plain navy blue V-necked pullover for Years 7 - 10,

ONLY YEAR 11 STUDENTS MAY WEAR ROUND NECK NAVY JUMPERS OR SWEATSHIRTS. THESE MUST BE PLAIN WITH NO LOGO OF ANY DESCRIPTION. NO CARDIGANS OR FLEECES ALLOWED.

SOCKS Plain dark blue or black socks only

GIRLS:

SKIRTS Navy - of moderate length and style. Short skirts should not be shorter than mid-thigh and long skirts no longer than mid-calf.

TROUSERS Dark navy blue classical style, no leggings, jeans, cotton trousers or boot leg fashion trousers. Parents/carers are asked to contact the School if they are in any doubt before they purchase.

BLOUSE White, shirt style with long sleeves and plain collars. Blouses must be buttoned at neck.

PULLOVER (Optional) Plain school type navy blue V-necked pullover for Years 7 - 10,

PLEASE KEEP TO TRADITIONAL CLOTHES AND NOT FASHION TRENDS

All students must abide by the uniform rules, any student not wearing full uniform will not be allowed into normal lessons. The following rules must be adhered to:

• Hair - Hair should be in a style acceptable to the school. If, in the opinion of the Principal, hair is unacceptable parents/carers will be informed and the child may be sent home. Parents/carers are advised to contact the School if they have any queries regarding acceptable hairstyles.
• Make Up - Make-up must NOT be worn in school. Please ensure that your child is not bringing make-up into school.
• Jewellery - Students are only allowed ONE pair of small plain stud or ONE pair of plain sleepers – NO OTHER JEWELLERY PERMITTED. If a student wears a ring or other jewellery it will be confiscated and kept until the end of term. NO BODY STUDS ARE ALLOWED INCLUDING NOSE AND TONGUE STUDS.
• Personal Stereos, MP3s and I-PODS - Personal stereos, MP3s and I-PODS may be brought into school, however, they must be used in an appropriate manner, failure to do so may result in confiscation. Please note personal stereos, MP3s and I-PODS are brought to school at the owners risk, the Governors do not accept any liability. They should not be used during lessons.
• Confiscated Items - All confiscated items are kept in a secure place. Students will be told when they can collect them and by whom.
• Mobile Phones - Students will be allowed to bring mobile phones to school, however, they must not be switched on or used during lessons. If a student is caught using a mobile phone it will be confiscated until the end of the school day and can be collected from Reception. Persistent confiscations may result in a parent/carer being asked to collect the phone from the School Reception. The school takes NO RESPONSIBILITY for lost or stolen mobile phones. Students who bring mobile phones to school do so entirely at their own risk.

SMOKING IS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN ACROSS THE WHOLE CAMPUS
 

UNIFORM

FOOTBALL:

White shorts, boots and navy reversible jersey with a white band on the reverse, (or two separate jerseys blue and white) of the rugby type. Football shorts. Rugby socks, with red and white hoops. Shin pads.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND ATHLETICS:

A second pair of white shorts. . White ankle socks. A school sports shirt is compulsory this should be purchased from the School Finance Assistant during the Year 6 Induction Day or at the beginning of term. The cost of the sports shirt is £9.00.

SHOWERS Showers are available. A towel will be required if necessary.

TRACKSUITS Tracksuits may be worn over PE kits.

SWIMMING Swimming shorts and towel + bag – see below.

GIRLS:

SHOES Any training shoes. Not boots.

SPORTS SHIRT The School sports shirt should be purchased from the P.E. staff either during the Year 6 Induction Day or at the beginning of term. The cost of the sports shirt is £9.00

SHORTS Short dark navy shorts (not cycling shorts). For hygienic reasons these articles of clothing should be taken home and washed each week.

TRACKSUITS Tracksuits may be worn over PE kits.

GAMES 3/4 length red socks. For winter games a sweatshirt may be worn.

BAG A bag for PE clothes is optional.

SHOWERS Showers are available. A towel will be required if necessary.

SWIMMING Swimming costume and towel + bag.

Your co-operation in helping your child to take a pride in the neat appearance of the uniform and in paying attention to detail is much appreciated.

BAGS/CASES A sturdy waterproof bag that will afford adequate protection to the contents.

Should it be necessary to make any alterations to School Uniform each parent/carer will receive an official notification. until changes are received in writing from the school, PLEASE SEE THAT YOUR CHILD IS IN THE CORRECT UNIFORM AS DESCRIBED.

We are pleased to be able to offer to all students, a NEW range of reversible shower proof or waterproof fleece jackets, at a very reasonable price and good quality. They are navy blue, with the St George’s School motif embroided on one side, and are suitable to be worn over School blazers. If you would like any more information with regard to purchasing one of these jackets then please get in touch with the School’s Finance Officer.

LOST PROPERTY:

The Governors are unable to accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property of students. Marking clothes and other property with owner's name is therefore of the greatest importance, and parents/carers are requested to ensure that all property brought to school is marked.

1. Every item of clothing and personal property is to be clearly marked with name in indelible ink.

2. All lost property will be taken to, and claimed from, the Student Support Office.

3. PARENTS/CARERS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO TAKE OUT PERSONAL INSURANCE AGAINST THE LOSS OF CLOTHING AND POSSESSIONS.

SCHOOL SHOP:
The aim of the School Shop is to provide goods at fair prices for the benefit and convenience of our students. It is open from 8.15 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 4.00 p.m. on Fridays during term time at Reception. Students should purchase items during break, at lunchtime or at the end of the school day.

As well as general stationery items we offer such things as; sketch books, coloured pencils (sold singularly and very good quality), putty rubbers, protective glasses and goggles for Technology and Science and of course it is the only outlet for school ties.

Any excess income generated through the School Shop is used in other areas of the School.

BOOKS AND EQUIPMENT:

It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure their child has:
• Pocket English and French Dictionary
• Ball-point or cartridge-type pen
• HB Pencil
• Rubber
• Ruler
