School Travel Plan: St George’s has successfully completed a School Travel Plan which aims to encourage students and staff to use sustainable travel methods to and from school. Wherever possible we would ask parents/carers not to bring students to school by car but to use alternative means, e.g. public transport, bicycles or walking. If you do have to use the car please do not bring them right up to the school gate but consider dropping off further away and letting them walk part of the way. There is a Toucan Crossing immediately outside school that, if used, will ensure they can cross Westwood Road safely. As a result of our successful bid and at a cost of over £10,000 we have been able to provide a brand new bicycle shelter that is completely water proof along with lockers for cycle helmets or waterproof clothing. Your child can purchase a padlock for a locker from Estates Manager at a cost of £10.00 – this will cover the cost of the padlock and key and one replacement. Application forms can be obtained from Reception. For administration purposes only padlocks issued by the School should be used. We hope that provision of better cycle storage facilities will encourage more of our students to cycle to school thus improving the environment and their own health by taking more exercise. Transport Arrangements to Broadstairs: All students travelling by bus must line up in the playground at the end of the day and will be dismissed by a member of staff as and when their bus arrives. Behaviour on Buses: It should be noted that: THE SCHOOL FULLY SUPPORTS ANY ACTION TAKEN BY THE BUS COMPANIES IN REGARD TO POOR BEHAVIOUR. Cyclists: Students wishing to cycle to school may do so, but it must be remembered that: The School urges parents/carers to encourage their son/daughter to wear safety helmets when travelling to and from School and strongly recommend that students take a cycling proficiency test. Students should dismount on the school campus. It is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure bicycles are roadworthy. THE GOVERNORS WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR BICYCLES WHICH ARE BROUGHT TO THE SCHOOL. PARENTS/CARERS ARE REMINDED THAT ALTHOUGH THE BICYCLE SHEDS ARE SECURE THEY ARE ACCESSIBLE FROM THE MAIN ROAD AND NO VALUABLE ATTACHMENTS SHOULD BE LEFT ON THE BICYCLES. BICYCLES SHOULD BE PADLOCKED. Motor Cycles and Scooters: WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE PERMISSION FOR BICYCLES, MOTOR CYCLES OR SCOOTERS TO BE BROUGHT ONTO THE SCHOOL CAMPUS. |
