Charles Dickens Update from Mrs Stoner
11th March 2016
You will be aware St. George’s Church of England Foundation School has been supporting The Charles Dickens School since the beginning of the 2015/2016 academic year and more formally from 12th October 2015 when we were requested by the Local Authority to provide Interim Leadership.
The Leadership and support that has been provided has been positive and recognised by Ofsted HMI “as taking effective measures towards the removal of special measures”. However, a set of circumstances has come to light in recent weeks which has resulted in the St. George’s Church of England Foundation School Governing Body having to review the present arrangements.
At the instigation of myself and the Chair of Governors of The Charles Dickens School we have found it necessary to undertake a full financial review of The Charles Dickens School. This was conducted by KCC Schools Financial Services and was an extremely thorough and rigorous review.
The review has identified that the school faces significant financial pressures which require immediate and decisive action.
One of the consequences of this challenging financial situation has resulted in the decision of St. George’s Church of England Foundation School Governing Body not to extend the interim leadership arrangements beyond July 2016.
In the period between now and July we will continue to guide and support The Charles Dickens School in collaboration with the Local Authority until sponsorship arrangements have been found to bring about a conversion for The Charles Dickens School to Academy Status.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your understanding, support and “sharing” of members of the St. George’s Learning Community to support a local school facing specific challenges.
Mrs Kim Stoner
