There are no words!
Today marks the end of an extraordinary chapter at St George’s C of E Foundation School — as two people have left the building for the last time. Between them, they have given 41 years of dedication, leadership and heart to this community: Adam Mirams, our Headteacher, and Sam Mirams, our Head of Primary.
Forty-one years. Just take a moment to think about that.
That is more than four decades of assemblies, school productions, sports days, inspections, exam seasons, early mornings, late evenings, and thousands upon thousands of conversations with pupils, parents and staff. It is generations of families. It is children who arrived in Reception and left as confident young adults — and in many cases, returned years later as parents themselves.
Adam, as Headteacher, you have led with passion, clarity, integrity and an unwavering sense of purpose. Leadership in education is never simple, and in recent years it has been anything but easy. Yet through every change, every challenge, every reform and every unexpected twist, you have kept the school’s vision steady. You have balanced determination with compassion, standards with care, and accountability with humanity.
You have never lost sight of the fact that this school is about people — about young lives in formation — and that leadership is as much about listening as it is about deciding. You never once gave up on the impossible dream of ‘Every Moment, Every Day, Every Individual Counts’.
Sam, as Head of Primary, you have shaped the very foundations of this school — quite literally. The tone you set in the primary phase has rippled throughout the entire community. You have nurtured curiosity, kindness and confidence in the youngest members of our school family, ensuring that their first steps in education were joyful, purposeful and full of possibility.
You have understood that the early years are not simply preparation for the future — they are the future. And the care, structure and warmth you have brought to primary have set children up not just for academic success, but for life.
Together, you have embodied what makes St George’s so special. Not just high expectations, but high support. Not just achievement, but character. Not just structure, but spirit.
You have seen enormous change over the years you have devoted to St George’s — new buildings, new curricula, new technologies, new challenges — but what has remained constant is your commitment to the school’s values and its community.
You have supported staff through milestones and difficulties. You have celebrated successes quietly and carried burdens heavily. You have created an environment where people feel safe to grow — whether they are five years old, fifteen years old, or at the start of their teaching career.
And perhaps most importantly, you have led not just as colleagues, but as partners in a shared mission. The unity between Headteacher and Head of Primary has provided stability and strength that cannot be measured on any data sheet.
Adam and Sam, your legacy is not found in policies or paperwork. It is found in confident Year 11 leavers. In children who discovered a love of reading. In staff who found their calling. In families who felt supported. In a community that feels proud to belong to St George’s.
As you step into the next chapter, know that your impact here will echo for many years to come. The culture you have shaped, the standards you have set, and the care you have modelled will remain woven into the fabric of this school.
On behalf of governors, staff, pupils, parents, and the wider community — thank you.
Thank you for your service.
Thank you for your leadership.
Thank you for your heart.
St George’s is stronger because of you.
We wish you rest, joy, new adventures, and the deep satisfaction of knowing that you have made a profound and lasting difference.
Adam and Sam — you will always be part of the St George’s story.
Thank you, and farewell.
